STANHOPE – An accident that took place on the northbound side of Route 206 near the intersection with Route 183 at around 4:05 p.m. left a man seriously injured.
The vehicle of the unidentified man hit a telephone pole, causing both utility poles and electrical wires to be knocked down. As a result, both highways of the northbound lanes had to be shut down to all traffic for several hours. These highways included Route 183 North at Dell Road and Route 206 at the Route 183 merge. Northbound Route 206 in the vicinity of Route 183 remained closed until about 11 p.m.
The injured driver was taken to Hackettstown Hospital by the Stanhope-Netcong Ambulance Squad for treatment. His name and identification was being withheld until his family could be notified.
The incident is under investigation to identify the cause of the accident.
Stanhope Police arrived at the accident scene and were assisted by Byram Police, Mount Olive Police, Sussex County Sheriff ‘s Department, Stanhope Fire Department, Stanhope-Netcong Ambulance Squad and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
