New Jersey Couple Left Kids While Dealing With Black Friday Crowds In Outlet Mall

WOODBURY, N.Y. – According to the police, a crying 4-year-old was found wandering around a hotel at 4 a.m. on Friday while his parents were dealing with Black Friday crowds in an outlet mall.

Woodbury police took Toru Sakaguchi into custody. He faces one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Authorities told that his son was crying and alone when he was found by an employee at the Hampton Inn in Central Valley (Orange County).

When officers responded to the hotel, the boy took them to room 102 and they knocked at the door but they didn’t get any reply. Police asked the front desk then attempted unsuccessfully to reach someone within the room by telephone. When officers finally entered the room, they found an 11-year-old disabled girl, but no adults with her.

According to the police, Hotel staff then called Sakaguchi, informing him of the situation and telling him to return to the room. The 40-year-old got back to the room after 4:30 a.m.

Investigators said that Sakaguchi told them he had left the children around 3 a.m. to pick up his wife, who then proceeded to continue her shopping at the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets for an hour.

The children were examined by medical personnel at the scene and there were no injuries.

Sakaguchi was issued a ticket and released without bail. He is summoned to Woodbury Town Court at 5:30 p.m. on 10th of December.
