TRENTON – According to some New Jersey lawmakers, secretly taking images or making a video of any individual’s undergarments should be made a crime.
On Thursday, a measure was approved by the Assembly’s Judiciary Committee under which “up skirting” will be considered as a fourth-degree offense.
Up skirting is interference in the privacy of any person that happens when another person fits a hidden camera or any other device to capture images or recording video of their private body parts, according to the legislation. The measure will also make it a third-degree offense to upload images on websites if they have been taken without the permission of the person.
According to supporters of the legislation, the suspects own many websites that are designed to upload these types of images and videos for people who want to see them.
